Grease Traps

WHAT ARE GREASE TRAPS

According to Universal Plumbing Code, “a grease trap/grease interceptor is a plumbing device that is installed in a sanitary drainage system to ‘trap’ or ‘intercept’ non-petroleum FOG from a wastewater discharge.” As wastewater flows from the sink or drain into a tank, the fats, oil and grease (FOG) float to the surface, leaving the wastewater to flow into the sewage system.

RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE: We suggest, at minimum, a quarterly grease trap pumping. That process includes complete removal of all grease, sediment and water.  After confirming your system is functioning correctly, we sanitize the grease trap to minimize any odors, and we pressure clean to remove any additional debris or waste solidified on the walls of the grease trap. Banyan Environmental Group also takes on the responsibility of reporting your services to the city, to avoid any fines or issues with the city.
